Based upon my Oyster Perpetual experience, I see no reason why I would prefer the Rolex Explorer to the Tudor Black Bay 36, especially given the large price difference. My BB was purchased with a significant discount from an authorized retailer. While the Black Bay GMT was probably the most popular introduction, the METAS-certified Black Bay in black was a close second. With an updated movement, a slimmer case, and an absence of gilt-tone details, it is probably as close as we’ll ever see a Black Bay come to a Rolex Submariner.
When comparing the Rolex Submariner and Tudor Black Bay, it all comes down to personal preference (and budget). If you’re looking for a modern, feature-packed watch, then the Rolex Submariner is an outstanding choice.
Remember, the Oyster Perpetual is the most understated watch in Rolex's catalogue - everything about it flies under the radar as far as I'm concerned. Be warned though, the new maxi-case that Rolex uses in their watches does make the OP wear slightly larger than what you may expect from a 36.
